PLEX has been developed at the University of Bolton by Phillip Beauvoir, Mark Johnson, Oleg Liber, Colin Milligan, Paul Sharples and Scott Wilson.

Features
Windows XP/2000 version

Download version 0.4.0 for Windows with Java included (46.3 mb)
Download version 0.4.0 for Windows (21.4 mb)

Installation notes:

If you already have Java installed you can use the version of the editor without Java (Java version 1.4.2 or later is needed.) If you don't have Java installed or if you're not sure, download the version with Java included.

After downloading, unzip the file. Launch the Editor by double-clicking on the plex application file. You can add a shortcut link on your desktop if you like.




Linux version (x86/GTK 2)

Download version 0.4.0 for Linux (21.4 mb)

Installation notes:

Ensure that you have at least Java version 1.4.2 installed on your system.

After downloading, extract the tar archive. Launch Plex by clicking on the plex application file. You can add a shortcut link on your desktop if you like.

Please note that the internal Browser (Mozilla) may not work on some Linux setups. In order to get this feature working, follow these instructions:

  1. Ensure that the "mozilla-browser" package is installed at /usr/lib/mozilla
  2. Ensure that the "libstdc++5" package is installed
  3. Add the line "export MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME=/usr/lib/mozilla" to the end of the file: /etc/environment

Macintosh version (PPC)

Download version 0.4.0 for Apple Mac (21.0 mb)

Installation notes:

Ensure that you have at least Java version 1.4.2 installed on your system.

After downloading, extract the tar archive using Stuffit Expander or similar. Launch Plex by clicking on the plex application file.

Source code for Plex is available via the CVS repository at SourceForge, here:

Plex is written in Eclipse (http://www.eclipse.org) so you will need Eclipse SDK version 3.2 in order to compile and run the application.

The settings to access the CVS repository are:

Connection type: pserver
User: anonymous
Password: n/a
Host: ple-project.cvs.sourceforge.net
Repository path: /cvsroot/ple-project
